1. There is a growing demand in road cycling for wheelsets that are wider, lighter, and stiffer. In response, LightFast has introduced the LF X5 from its X Series, an ultra lightweight wheelset featuring carbon spokes.

At the same time, more riders are turning towards carbon spoke designs due to their improved stiffness, lighter weight and durability. The LF X5 Disc Brake wheelset has been developed to meet this shift in preference, offering a more refined and responsive ride.

3. LF X5 utilises Aerospace Grade Toray T1000 and T1000 carbon fiber. The fiber is precision braided and uses high temperature resin to produce an ultralightweight wheelset. Every gram of weight reduction contributes to a static reduction as well as a reduction in rotating mass. 

4. LF X5 Carbon Rims have an internal width of 25mm and an outer width of 34mm. They are aerodynamically shaped with a low alpha critical angle to allow airflow to stay attachd for longer. The rim profile prevents a large pressure differential building up between the fore and aft sides of the rim which results in superior cross wind performance. 

5. The video below shows the 30 mm LF X5 wheelset undergoing an impact test, where it withstands up to 95 J of impact energy. For comparison, the UCI standard requires only 40 J. That means the LF X5 delivers impact resistance of roughly 2.5 times the international benchmark.

6. The LF X5 hub uses the latest 45T ratchet system with TPI ceramic bearings, designed to deliver consistent reliable low vibration power. The 45T configuration provides an 8° engagement angle, offering smooth and responsive operation. Compared with a 36T hub at 10°, it engages more quickly, while avoiding the overly tight feel of a 54T hub at 6.7°. The result is a well balanced engagement that is responsive without being overly aggressive.

7. The LF X5 uses ultra light carbon spokes, they combine low weight with high strength and improved aerodynamic performance. Each spoke is the result of both extensive development and testing. The latest sixth generation LF carbon spokes weigh just 2 g per spoke, which is roughly one third of the weight of a typical steel spoke. Both ends are fitted with black titanium alloy interfaces to improve durability and long term reliability. They mitigate the common issue of galvanic corrosion.

8. The LF X5 is designed for straightforward tyre compatibility and ease of maintenance. Carbon spoke hole sealing tape is pre installed to protect the spoke interface and simplify upkeep. In addition, tubeless ready rim tape is fitted as standard, allowing immediate use with either clincher tyres with inner tubes or tubeless ready tyres without any additional preparation.

The wheelset is compatible with tyres from 25 mm to 43 mm. For optimal performance, 28 mm to 33mm tyres are recommended.

9. The LF X5 rims are manufactured using high speed CNC drilling to ensure consistent and precise hole geometry. Spoke holes and nipple access holes are drilled simultaneously, ensuring accurate alignment and correct entry angles for improved assembly and load distribution. The holes are drilled in two stages to prevent splintering and reduce the likelihood of any cracks from stress raisers.

10. The LF X5 wheelset has a maximum system weight limit of 110 to 120 kg. This includes the combined weight of the rider, bicycle and any carried equipment.

The LF X5 carbon rim is designed to be lightweight with high stiffness. It uses a paint free finish, which reduces overall mass and eliminates the need for additional coating, while maintaining the inherent structural rigidity of the carbon laminate.

1.The LF X5 is available in multiple rim depth configurations, including 35 mm, 45 mm, 50 mm and 60 mm combinations. All variants feature a 34 mm external width and 25 mm internal width.

2.The rim is a tubeless ready hooked design, compatible with tubeless tyres from 25 mm to 43 mm, and also supports standard clincher tyres with inner tubes.

3.The LF X5 is compatible with leading tyre models such as Schwalbe Pro One and Continental GP5000 TL.
